Preston Family Fund
I have been friends with Tom Preston since high school. As a teenager, he found out — after getting rejected for donating blood because he was anemic — that he had leukaemia. He fought hard and made a full recovery after a successful bone marrow transplant.
Tom has a good life; he earned a PhD in Biology and started working in cancer research, he met, wooed and married Christine Mallory and together they have triplets, Charlotte, Andrew and Grace.
Last year, Tom was diagnosed with cancer again, this time in his liver and while we all hope for the best, this is going to be a tough struggle. So, for the next while, $1 from every shirt we sell, will go to help Tom and his family as he fights to beat cancer again.
Other causes
While Gobsmact is focussing on the Preston Fund, we know there are other causes worth supporting. If you can, please consider giving to one of the causes below.</>
Multiple Sclerosis
My good friend Mike Stewart has been living with MS for years. And now is an important time for research in that disease. There are promising new treatments, like Liberation Therapy and (believe it or not) a treatment that involves giving MS patients a hookworm infection. If you can, click here to give to MS Society of Canada.
Second Harvest
Second Harvest is a Toronto based food redistribution charity. Everyday they pick up excess food from restaurants, shops, hotels and more that would otherwise go to waste and deliver it to approximately 250 social services organizations across the Greater Toronto Area. Often Awesome
I found out about this great pop band called the The Popovers when they won a contest to create the theme song for Dan Savage’s Savage Lovecast. Unfortunately almost as soon as they started to get some attention Tim LaFollette, the main force behind the Popovers was diagnosed with ALS. His friends put together Often Awesome, a community that helps support Tim and his wife as they live with ALS. Click here to help Often Awesome.
